Obesity Poster
sketches
I needed to create a 36in by 24in poster for anything we want to bring awareness to. I decided to do my poster on the dangers of obesity and food addiction.
Â
I wanted the visuals to be an overhead view of a table with food or a POV of someone's dinner table.
Â
I did a couple of thumbnails of basic ideas and I played around with the "O" in Obesity and a couple food graphs I could possibly put in.
Â
I created three sketched layouts. I played around more with the "O" and tried turning it into an info graphic. I played around with the text organization. I ultimately decided to go forward with the right layout.
Preliminaty Layout
This was my first iteration. I liked how the basic layout turned out but the information was not clear. There is a lot of space used but not a lot of information told effectively so I decided to revamp the whole thing one more time.Â
Final Layout
The first thing I decided to add was a dark brown wood backdrop to push a type a "over the table" view. I also decided to immediately downsize the size of the "healthy plate" and add a green vegetable. I made the text on that initial plate a warm green to further communicate that this is the healthy advice. I made the pizza graph clearer and more legible. I strayed away from the "O" from obesity being an info graphic and decided top replace the idea with a glazed donuts that perfectly fit the color palette of the text. I replaced the "effects of obesity" at the bottom with a short and sweet warning. Although the effects of obesity were supposed to read like the effects of a medicine disclaimer in a commercial, no one is going to read that big chunk of text. I shortened the text and simplified the info graphic I had made and and added a short and direct list of symptoms of food addiction. All of these changes creates a captivating and clear graphic of the dangers of obesity and food addiction.
