"Famous Couples"
Book Cover
Inspired Media
My book cover is a "famous couple" series featuring Link and Zelda, the Princess and Hero of Hyrule. I decided to use the 2017 game “Breath of the Wild” because it is the current most popular and accessed Zelda game in mainstream media.
Symbols Used
Hyrule Castle
Center of the map, hardest area of the game, inal battle area, storyline starts and ends here, princess is trapped here (light at top represents her).
Master Sword
Main protagonist and hero, Link, main weapon and it’s always a main quest to retrieve and often seen on his person in official art and games. The sword often represents him.
Flower (Silent Princess)
Symbolizes the princess faint presence in the game. The princesses favorite flower. Often seen places she used to visit often or loved before her absence.
The Triforce
Main object the villain tries to possess. Grants anyone any wish. Protected by the Royal family and is also their Royal Crest. Included in main plot points in games.
The Pedestal of Time
This organization is a reference to when you first find the master sword and is one of the main plot points of the game.
Champion's Tunic
The shade of blue used is referencing the tunic worn by the Hero.
Sketches & revisions
Initial Sketch
Refined Sketch
I landed on this sketch because there's a sense of unity with all of the symbols used as they replicate a triangle shape. All the symbols are also clear in both meaning and silhouette.
Original
Revision 1
Since the franchise's main symbol (the Triforce) is triangle-based, I wanted the outlined white details oriented in a triangle. I changed the blue to be the same shade as the iconic blue used in the hero's character design in promotional art.
Final Revision
The gradients are deep and dramatic due to the high-stakes story of the game. The danger from the orange gradient behind the "Triforce" is the cause of constant disruption in the kingdom. But the calm blue gradient represents the peace that the princess and hero will bring to the kingdom once again. The back cover features a flower and a sword arranged in a triangle, consistent with the triangle pattern replicated throughout the piece. It is also a reference to the Hero finding the sword in every game. The text lies in the center gap of a triforce shape.
